Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

I think just about every child that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s (and maybe some of you 2000’s babies) read at least one of the Give Yourself Goosebumps novels. The choose your own adventure style of these books kept a lot of the children not as interested in reading at the time engaged and intrigued. Everyone had their own personal favorite, mine being Escape from the Carnival of Horrors, and I remember in depth discussions at the lunch tables throughout elementary school. When I originally heard that Netflix was developing a choose your own adventure movie experience, I was intrigued. I can only imagine how long something like this would take to create considering the multitude of choices.

I have never watched Black Mirror previously but this episode (or movie, I guess) has definitely piqued my curiosity. I sat for a solid two hours trying to see every possible ending there was. I really enjoyed the moments that broke the fourth wall, particularly when you select to chop the dad into pieces.

Some moments were pretty out there, especially the whole lion demon thing. And Colin was definitely insane. I get believing in multiple realities but I’d prefer to be alive in this one.

My absolute favorite scene has to be the random fight scene at the therapist’s office. I thought it was hilarious. It was a blast running through different scenarios and discovering new pathways to the end.

I would love for some additional choose your own adventure style stories to be released in the future. With the level of success that Bandersnatch is seeing, I’m sure that is on the horizon over at Netflix.
